Treatment Performed
Phase 1
Surface cleaning with aqueous solution (pH 6.5) and cotton swabs. Removal of embedded particulate matter.
Phase 2
Selective varnish removal using solvent mixture (mineral spirits/acetone 3:1) with careful monitoring of paint layer.
Phase 3
Application of new isolating varnish (Regalrez 1094) followed by final aesthetic varnish. Gloss adjusted to match artist intent.
Materials Used
Regalrez 1094, Gamblin Conservation Colors, Beva 371 adhesive, Japanese tissue, mineral spirits, acetone. All materials conform to AIC standards for conservation practice.
